Toolkit Handy Hint - Trimmers

Good evening crafty friends!

As you know, I <3 my Fiskars SureCut™ Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer and use it daily in my crafting. It is arguably the most used tool in my toolkit. Cutting paper, cardstock, and photos is no problem with my trimmer. Everything cuts neat and clean!

One of the ways I keep everything cutting neat and clean is paying extra attention to my blades. The Tripletrack™ Relacement Blades are double sided. What I do is simple. I mark my blades with a fine tip Sharpie and cut my materials accordingly.

I mark my blades with my name and number the sides like so.

After I pop my blade in my trimmer with the 1 rightside up, I move it to the very top of the track and only cut downwards. I know some ladies cut down then up. That's not necessary as it only dulls your blades faster. My tip is to only cut DOWNWARDS until one side of blade is blunt.

When the blade is no longer cutting things neatly, I pop it out of the track, and flip it around so the 2 is right side up. I move it back to the very top of the track and again only cut downwards.

When both sides of my blade aren't cutting properly, then I know it's time for a new blade. I go to my toolkit stash, open up a new pack of blades, mark them with my Sharpie and off I go.

I hope this simple lil hint helps you get the most from your trimmer and blades. If you don't have a good trimmer, I cannot recommend this one highly enough. There's nothing more frustrating than a trimmer that doesn't cut properly, has fiddly blades, and is poorly marked or hard to see. That's not the case here. I've used plenty of trimmers in my day and I haven't touched any of them since I got my fiskars trimmer in 2013. It's that good!
